Cameras & Tips

A good entry level game camera is the Moultrie A-5 camera.  It is a 5 MP camera that takes color photos and videos in daylight and black and white at night.  The camera is easy to set up without a lot of options making it perfect for a beginner like myself.  You can find it at Amazon.com for around $55, making it easy on the wallet too. It uses 4 C size batteries or an optional rechargeable battery box.

The camera comes with a strap, but sometimes that can be ornery to get around a large tree or a tree in a lot of brush. So I purchased the EZ Tree Mounts.  These screw right into a tree or wood structure making it a breeze to move a single camera from point to point or mount multiple cameras, which I hope to do in the near future.

Software

At some point you will want to get some software to view and edit your videos.  You want to be able to look at your videos, frame at at time, and you want to be able to adjust brightness and contrast.  Sometimes it is very hard to see what is happening until you slow down the video or adjust the contrast and brightness.  One of my favorites is Saint Paint Studio.  It is very easy to use and best of all it is free.  The software can be downloaded at Cnet.com or www.saintpaint.com.  You can also have some fun with it like I did in the video below of "Old Smiley".
